Report of the sixth meeting of the intergovernmental committee of experts of the eastern Africa subregional development centre:

The sixth session of the Intergovernmental Committee met in Kigali, Rwanda 1 from 23 to -26 October 2001 to take stock of progress made in the implementation of the EA/SRDC's work programme, discuss macro-economic and sectoral issues pertaining to developments in the economies of the Sub region and the way forward. The meeting was somewhat echoing the launching of the African Initiative for recovery and development being launched the same day and will no doubt contribute to mapping out modalities for its effective implementation. . Regional cooperation and integration are indispensable for ' countries of the sub region if they have to play, a role in the world economy. Peace and stability are major ingredients to development and the sub region must free itself from the shackles of war and poverty.
