Refocusing of ECA: Note by Mr. Carlos Lopes, Executive Secretary of ECA

This note delivered by Mr. Carlos Lopes Executive Secretary of ECA on the Refocusing of ECA. Mr. Lopes on his remarks highlighted that, Africa is changing and in order to meet identified emerging priorities for accelerated transformation of its member States, ECA itself must change. New strategic directions have accordingly been determined for ECA with the intention of improving its focus and specialization. This entails ECA putting ‘Africa First’ in all its work and the recalibration of its programmes to take account of its comparative advantages. Knowledge delivery will be enhanced through training and capacity development activities. To this end, all training to be undertaken under the auspices of ECA will be through the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning in Dakar. The 52nd meeting of the African Institute for Economic Development and Training Governing Council attended by African Ministers of Planning similarly discussed and welcomed the proposed changes.
