Areas of cooperation between the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and United Nations Agencies in the field of information and documentation
The state of information handling capabilities in Africa at the national sub-regional or regional level has so far not been satisfactory that, at times it was referred to as a “vacuum of information infrastructure” the situation rather improving has grown worse as the limited inputs by government and international agencies fail to cope up with increasing needs for social economic and scientific information. This deteriorating situation requires immediate and stepped-up action and a radical approach to modernize the archaic and inadequate information infrastructure.
