Reviewers of diversity management study propose bringing APRM closer to the people

Reviewers of Diversity Management Study propose bringing APRM closer to the people. More than 20 selected experts and academics took part in a peer-review on Tuesday, 8 March 2011 of a synthesis report entitled, “Diversity Management in Africa: Findings from the African Review Mechanism and a Framework for Analysis and Policy-Making”. Competition for various resources like land, water or cultural rights, lingering historical animosities and mistrust perpetuated by uneven access to resources, the presence of religious and cultural intolerance and chauvinism and spill-over from state-identity conflicts are cited as some major causes of conflicts in these countries. While acknowledging that the causes vary from country to country, its core focus, however is to formulate, based on the empirical findings, a theoretical framework that maps out the main factors that transform diversity of identities into a major source of conflict.
