At '54 One Union Conference', ECA urges countries to integrate into strong, diversified economy

On the second day of the Third international Conference, “54 countries, One Union” taking place from 3-4 May in Addis Ababa, a senior UN official said Africa’s multi-faceted challenges require strategies that offer regional, sub regional and continental solutions and as such, "the need for the integration of the continent is stronger than ever." In his address at the Ethiopian Capital, Joseph Atta-Mensah, Director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Programme Management at the UN Economic Commission for Africa said, “What many Africans aspire for is that the 54 fragmented economies become integrated into one strong, robust, diversified and resilient economy.” Speaking on behalf of the UN Under Secretary-General and ECA Executive Secretary Abdoulie Janneh, Atta-Mensah emphasized the importance of “ownership and self-belief in national development policies and a sufficient policy space to design strategies that address their specific needs.”
