Statement by outgoing chair of bureau : meeting of the committee of experts of the 5th joint annual meetings of the AU conference of ministers of economy and finance and ECA conference of ministers of finance, planning and economic development

This statement delivered by Outgoing Chair of Bureau at the Meeting of the Committee of Experts of the 5th Joint Annual Meetings of the AU Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and ECA Conference of Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The bureau highlighted that, the themes of the conference have been at the heart of the serious economic difficulties that plagues many of our countries. African countries have made significant progress in the areas of economic performance and good governance. The remarkable success recorded in several African countries particularly as regards to better macroeconomic management, united efforts at self-criticism and evaluation of development agenda (NEPAD, APRM etc) prompted scholars to argue that perhaps Africa may claim the 21st century as a growth pole. The major challenge we face is how African governments would mobilize resources to finance growth, development, investments in infrastructure and poverty reduction programmes.
