Applicability of community development techniques to Addis Ababa
This study on the "Applicability of Community Development Techniques to Addis Ababa" was undertaken under an agreement between the Economic Commission for Africa and the University College of Addis Ababa. It was also approved and most strongly backed by the Municipality. The study is based on sample surveys of family groups in six different districts based on standard questionnaires. The processing of the replies enabled the correlations to be established that brought out the essential features of the city's social structure and defined the nature of and possible solutions to the problems involved in the city's growth, with particular reference to housing and social services. The study contains two parts, the first of which gives a general picture of the social situation in Addis Ababa, while the second is designed to determine in how far community development and social service methods might provide the solutions for the problems raised.
