Zimbabwe: second intergovernmental meeting of experts industry of iron and steel industry in in Eastern and Southern Africa subregion

A detailed paper was submitted to the First Intergovernmental Meeting of Experts on the establishment of the Iron and Steel Industry in Eastern and Southern African subregion held in Addis Ababa between the 25th -29th May 1981. As was pointed out in the previous paper the Iron and Steel Industry of Zimbabwe is a highly sophisticated sector of the economy and provides a growing range of agricultural mining, industrial machinery and equipment as well as other metal product including electric cable and railway equipment. Perhaps the best illustration of the diversity of local industry is the fact that the index to the official list of products of Zimbabwean industries includes some 6,165 individual items from abattoir equipment to zip fastener.
