The United Nations and the problems of desertification and the protections of the environment : environmental co-ordination office United Nations Economic Commission for Africa
Presenting this paper on the work of the United Nations system on the problems of desertification and the protection of the African Environment, the priority areas of environment concern in the African environment development scenario where immediate action are most needed. the implementation of these priority areas of environmental concern, the ECA Secretariat, working in close collaboration with the Organization of African Unity and multinational financial donors is planning strategies, policies and guidelines for government action so that the economic performance of' the member States of this Commission during this decade would not reflect the gloomy trends reflected in the last two United Nations Development Decades of the sixties and seventies. The emphasis here is on desertification control for the protection of the African environment.
