This paper is focuses on the senior policy workshop on the theme: “staff retention, cost recovery schemes and private financing of Universities”. The objectives of the workshop are: to examine the problems pertaining to staff retention in the universities and to propose measures for coping with the rising exodus of teaching and research staff; to explore the role private universities can play in meeting demand for higher education in light of the overstretched capacities of public universities which have under further financial pressure as a result of austerity measures taken by their respective governments.
