Review of models for Afriaca's energy demand and supply

Energy is central to Africa's concerns about development. Energy affects economic and social development, economic growth and Africa's environment. Energy underpins sustainable human development. As such, energy in Africa is also linked to a number of social and economic concerns which include poverty, population, health, gender, balance of payments, external indebtedness and Africa's peace and security. An important principle that underlies energy development, in Africa, and elsewhere, is that energy is not an end in itself but an important means to an end; socio-economic development. The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in its report on 'Africa in the 1990's and Beyond' has asserted that the energy sector will continue to be the main pillar as Africa endeavours to bring about genuine recovery of its economies.
