Strategies for transport and communication equipment technologies in Africa: the second United Nations Transport and Communications Decade for Africa (UNTACDA II)

The objectives of this paper is to highlight the main areas where the UNTACDA strategies for development of transport and communications need industrial support if their operational objectives have to be realized. By industrial support here is meant namely the supply of such products as equipment, parts, components as well as pertaining engineering technology and skills required for efficient and sustainable operation of transport and communication services. The paper also provides some elements for initiating the first step leading to identification of new projects, as well as rationalization, rehabilitation and upgrading of existing projects and establishments, including repair and maintenance workshops for development of the sort of industries relevant to the present objectives.
