Concepts definitions and classifications of the external trade statistics in relation to the SNA and the balance of payments
The merchandise imports and exports, as considered by the System of National Accounts (SNA) constitute only a part of the imports and exports of commodities (goods and services); these commodities themselves are only a part of the external transactions account. These same merchandise transactions are also only a part of those entering into the balance of payments.
