Synthesis report on the implementation of the Beijing platform for Action in Africa(Beijing+ 10)
This report will provide an assessment of the progress made on the African continent regarding the implementation of the 12 critical areas of concern in the 1995 Beijing Platform For Action (BPFA) that emerged from the fourth United Nations conference on women.' The twin goals of BPFA were to achieve gender equality and women's empowerment. Neither can occur unless governments, NGOs and communities are committed to pro-active policies and initiatives that alter entrenched structures and modes of behavior. Changes are expected to occur at every level of each society as well as at sub-regional and continental levels. Over the years many organizations, governments and institutions have monitored the volume of activities seeking to address the 12 areas of concern.
