Study of water potential of plants under different production environments.

The present project studied the water potential of plants under different production environments using a Scholander Pressure Chamber to measure the water potential in leaves and Time-Domain Reflectometry (TDR) to take and determine volumetric water content (VWC %) as a methodology system. The main objective of this project was to analyze the water potential in crops such as citrus (Citrus), cucumber (Cucumis sativus), chili pepper (Capsicum annuum), and tomato (Solanum Lycopersicum) in order to obtain knowledge about water management in the context of the humid tropics. To conduct the process, plants from tropical crops were selected and marked to study the water potential from March 13th to May 5th in 2021. In addition, the water potential in “Centibar” was measured in citrus, cucumber, chili pepper, and tomato plants for different volumetric water content in soils. Finally, the water potential in the studied crops and their correlation with the soil humidity were analyzed. During the experiment, climatic limitations were sometimes encountered that affected the water potential field capacity time of taking data and also the germination of some plants as well as the academic year start of the project. The results showed that water potential in different plants responded differently and their correlations (R2), determined by using a linear equation, varied: citrus (0,005), cucumber (0, 670), chili pepper (0,737), and tomato (0,507).
