The aim of this study was to evaluate the potential of near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and principal component analysis (PCA) for the classification of two species of the endophytic genus Epichloë (E. festucae and E. typhina). If accurate, this method could then be used for the identification of morphogically similar fungal species.
