Producción de biomasa y composición química de Festuca rubra en relación a su asociación con el hongo endofítico Epichloë festucae

In the dehesa grasslands of the province of Salamanca, close to 70 %of the Festuca rubra plants are infected by the fungal endophyte Epichloe festucae. An experiment was done to compare the biomass production and chemical composition of five half-sib families of Festuca rubra. Each family was composed by an endophyte infected and an endophyte free version of the half-sib plants. In the vegetative state the Nand Pcontent and the organic matter digestibility (OMO) were greater in infected plants but the Mn content was lower. In plants in a reproductive stage, Mn, Ca, and OMO were greater in infected plants. However, Cu, NOF, and lignin were lower in these plants than in the non infected ones.
