Micropropagation and in vitro germplasm conservation of Georgian wild grapevines.

In vitro propagation of five Georgian wild grapevine ecotypes was established employing apical and axillary buds. From single bud explants, multiple shoot self-rooted plantlets were obtained and transferred to soil afterwards. For multiple shoot induction, ¿VID¿ medium, supplemented with 3% sucrose, 0.072 mg l-1 of BAP and 0.024 mgl-1 of ANA was employed. After 60 days of culture all ecotypes showed a good response, including root induction and development. With differences among ecotypes the best results were a survival of 100%, 94.7% of rooted plants and an average of 3.75 shoots per explant. Acclimatization of plantlets to soil was very successful. Comparison with other varieties used traditionally has been made. Plants were conserved in germplasm bank by successive in vitro subcultures. These results indicate a good response of Georgian wild grapevine to in vitro propagation and conservation in controlled conditions.
