[Evaluación preliminar de un método a corto plazo para la detección de la resistencia al aluminio fitotoxico en trigo]

The effectiveness of an in-soil method to screen for aluminum toxicity was assessed in 12 wheat varieties of known allelic variant for the TaALMT1 gene. Seedlings were planted on top of rhizoboxes filled with soil of high and a low exchangeable Al and grown for two weeks. By using the root length as phenotypic marker, this technique allowed discriminating resistant from susceptible genotypes as well as heterogeneous populations. Data from PCR-based molecular markers for theTaALMT1 alleles correlated with the phenotype predicted by rhizoboxes in 11 out of 12 assayed varieties. Based on reasons for this discrepancy, the in-soil based method would be more effective than allelic discrimination to screen for aluminum resistant in wheat
