Inachus thoracicus (Crustacea, Decapoda) sustrato pasivo de Demospongia

[EN] Twenty different sponges have been found on the back or legs of Inachus thoracicus, in a study of epibiontes sponges on four specimens of these crustaceans. Until now, only two sponges -Mycale (Aegagropila) rotalis and M. (Cannia) macilenta- have been know as Majidae epibiontes, but none of l. thoracicus. Twelve of the determined sponges are found on one only crab, but three of them are common; yet Batzella inops and Weberella verrucosa, uncommon, occupy half of the crab and the central third of one leg respectively. The sponges found on three of (he four crabs are moderately common and widely distributed, generally on living substrata. Tedania toxicalis, known only in California, on an alga, apears for the first time on the Old World also on a living substratum. Chenoplysilla noevus and Aplysilla sulfurea are formed by single fibres of spongin that help the implantation of the sponge on substrata of little adhesion or mobile. In a similar way, Stylopus dujardini forms a coat of spongin on which rise the spicular columns of the skeleton: the skeletal constitution of the sponges helps them to fix on difficult substratum; on the contrary, Reniera sarai, a sponge of Httle adhesion, is in a sheltered place of the crab and its presence on a living substratum is rather rareo The study comprehends the description in vivo and spicular of each species.
