Collecting copepods for experiments: Behind the scenes

At first glance, it may seem simple to say, “We added 10 female Paracartia grani per bottle.” However, this sentence represents a tremendous amount of work, expertise, and experience. When it comes to working with copepods, conducting incubations with specific genders, stages, or species in each bottle is a common practice. In fact, for a single experiment, we often find ourselves collecting hundreds upon hundreds of copepods. But how exactly do we accomplish this?
