Report of the thirty-sixth session of the Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia and the Pacific (APHCA)

This publication reports the proceedings of the thirty-sixth session of the Animal Production and Health Commission for Asia and the Pacific (APHCA) convened from 20 to 24 October 2012 in Negombo, Sri Lanka. The session outlined the cornerstones of APHCA's strategic plan and work plan for 2013 as well as activities carried out in the previous year. Major themes considered were: antimicrobial use in livestock production and the threat to animal and human health in the region posed by antimicrobia l resistance, disease burdens from existing zoonoses and threats from the emergence of novel pathogens, assessments of the current and future supply of and demand for livestock feed, and strengthening of national livestock policy-making capacities through establishment of a livestock policy network in Asia-Pacific. Key recommendations that emerged are included in the report.
