The FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF) sets out principles and international standards of behaviourfor responsible practices, with a view to ensuring the effective conservation, management and development of living aquatic resources. Under the terms of the Code, States, within their respective competences and in accordance with international law, have the duty to cooperate at subregional, regional and global levels through regional fisheries management organizations, other international agreements or arrangements to promote conservation and management, ensure responsible fishing and effective conservation and protection of living aquatic resources. In 2021, the FAO Committee on Fisheries (COFI), one of FAO’s governing bodies providing overall policy and regulatory guidance on issues relating to fisheries, among others, called on FAO to implement a series of activities aimed at enhancing the implementation of the CCRF and related instruments. In view of this, the overall objective of this European Union-funded project was to support the improved implementation of the CCRF and related instruments.
