Wood Energy, Climate and Health - International Expert Consultation

World energy consumption patterns receive a lot of international attention because of their impact on global climate change. Much less attention is paid to the impacts of emissions from energy use on public health. It has been documented that indoor pollution due to poor combustion technology causes very severe adverse health effects. There is a link between climate and health, because the gaseous emissions which impact on global climate, partly overlap with the emissions which impact on hu man health. Hence, efforts to reduce them will have double benefits. These issues were discussed in the International Expert Consultation on 'Wood Energy, Climate and Health', organised by RWEDP in October 1999 in Phuket, Thailand. The present field document contains the papers, conclusions and recommendations of the consultation.
