Species identification sheets are presented for the plants, invertebrates and vertebrates of the Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea areas. The major groups included are algae and other marine plants, sponges, cnidarians, cirripedes, stomatopods, shrimps, sharks, chimaerids, teleosts, turtles and mammals. Every group section gives an explanation of relevant technical terminology, general remarks, guides or keys to suborders, family or genera and identification sheets for selected families and specie s. Identification sheets include an alpha-numerical family or species code, valid scientific names and synonyms still in use, proposed CCAMLR/FAO common names in English, French, Russian and Spanish, an illustration of the family or species, a diagnosis, illustrated differential diagnoses of similar families or species, information on size, geographical distribution, and behaviour (with a map) and fisheries.
