Committee on World Food Security (CFS)

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is the foremost intergovernmental and multistakeholder body within the UN agreeing on food security and nutrition policy guidance. The CFS inclusive model, which puts around the same table civil society, the private sector, UN agencies, international agricultural research bodies and others, ensures that the voices of all those concerned are heard. This broad level of participation means that, when CFS endorses global policy guidance for use by all stake holders, it already has broad legitimacy and ownership. CFS policy guidance is informed by a High Level Panel of Experts who provide science and independent evidence from all over the world on global food security and nutrition challenges. The Committee reports to the UN General Assembly through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and also to the Conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. The multi-stakeholder nature of CFS can be considered as a model for modern, global gover nance.
