The changes of cable extraction technologies in South Korea from 2000 to 2020

Cable extraction technology remains the most effective operation in steep slope forests but it has limitations and challenges. Cable logging in South Korea was introduced into steep terrain logging and has continued to be the cost-effective method of extraction. Machine performance should be understood to ensure common use of technology and optimization of technology. Therefore, we reviewed literature on cable logging performance to determine the productivity pattern using the 23 paper published in the last 20 years. We collected both productivity and independent variables. Cable yarder productivity rates generally depended on various independent variables such as, silvicultural treatment, harvesting method, and yarding direction. The results contribute to improving operation performance and towards future research directions. Keywords: Steep slope harvesting, Cable logging, Productivity, Thinning, Clear-cut ID: 3622344
