Water chemistry of the Sepik and Ramu River basin

A study of water chemistry and related factors in the Sepik-Ramu River basin was carried out with the purpose of providing supportive information for the FAO/UNDP project Sepik River Fish Stock Enhancement (PNG/85/001) and the FISHAID project (PNG/93/007). Field samples were collected in 1988 during the term of PNG/85/001.The present report presents the results of further data analysis and synthesis undertaken during the course of the FISHAID project. For the purpose of their evaluation, the dat a have been grouped by catchments to assess the impact of geological formations on water chemical composition. The results are also briefly discussed for their relevance to biological productivity of the investigated waters.
