Minutes of the Joint Meeting of the EAF-Nansen Project Regional Steering Committees.

The first joint meeting of the EAF-Nansen Project Regional Steering Committees (RSCs) was held at the Novotel Hotel in Accra, Ghana on 24 March 2011. The meeting was attended by representatives of the four RSCs, namely the Fishery Committee for the Eastern Central Atlantic (CECAF) North, CECAF South, the Benguela Current Commission (BCC) and the South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) and also partner projects, the Institute of Marine Research (IMR) and the Food and Agriculture Org anization (FAO). Messrs Paul Bannerman (Ghana) and Guy Rerambyath (Gabon) were elected chair and vice chair respectively. The Project Coordinator of the EAF-Nansen project presented an update on the implementation status of the project. Activities and achievements under each component of the project were presented and discussed. Special attention was given to the EAF country projects and their achievements so far, capacity building and in particular the EAF courses organized in partnership with universities in Africa. Also covered were the ecosystem surveys conducted by the R/V DR. FRIDTJOF NANSEN in collaboration with partner projects, and highlights of the Norad/FAO/IMR Fifth Annual Meeting held in Accra before the Joint Meeting of the Steering Committees. It was reported that Norad has expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the project and indicated that the project will continue when the first phase comes to an end in December 2011 with continued emphasis on Africa. Part icipants commended the project for the progress in implementation and the various activities undertaken. The recommendations compiled in the course of the meeting were discussed and adopted by the members.
