Rice: a major crisis on the world market has been averted

A thunderclap: the Indian export embargo, decided for domestic political reasons just a few months before the general elections, sent shockwaves through the world rice market. In the end, the impact was less than expected, and world prices did not return to the record levels of 2008. However, world trade has fallen, and the outlook remains tense, with several uncertainties linked to El Niño.
