The European banana market. The imposture of the safeguard clause and the stabilisation mechanism

With little suspense, the European Parliament will approve the association agreement and the multipartite agreement with eight countries in Central and South America. In order to reassure European producers (and why not ACP producers as well?), a safeguard clause and a stabilisation mechanism are planned for the agreement. But everybody knows that these measures are inoperative. Meanwhile, the question of the social and environmental aspects of the banana sold to European consumers is carefully kept off the pitch.
