A multilocation variety trial in Afraica to evaluation efficiency and stability of complete resistance to MSV originating in la Reunion

MSV-resistant varieties from CIRAD la Reunion were tested under artificial inoculation through a multilocation trial in Africa in order to compare them to other varieties against African MSV-isolates. The aim was, first, to evaluate the efficiency of MSV-resistance originating in la Reunion, and secondly, to discuss the stability and the potential durability of this resistance under cropping conditions. Symptomatological ratings from each location were analysed. After the analysis of variance of the series of experiments the stability of this resistance was studied according to the joint regression model. The interaction genotype x environment was also studied by principal component method. Highly significant differences were observed between the varieties for resistance to MSV. The genotype x environment interaction was also significant and could be explained by a joint regression method on an environment index. In each location the varieties from la Reunion exlnbited the strongest level of resistance to MSV compared to the varieties released by other organizations. The stability of the MSV resistant varieties originating in la Reunion were evaluated and from that the potential durability of the resistance against African MSV-isolates was determined.
