Caracterización e impacto del contexto paisajístico y su posible influencia sobre los niveles de Broca Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari), en la Provincia de Cartago (Costa Rica)

Coffee growing along the years has been affected by pests such as borer (Hypothenemus hampei). Understanding the behavior of this pest in the landscape favors strategies for the efficient management of this organization, benefiting the production of coffee producing countries. This study characterized the landscape around 51 sites of Carthage coffee (Costa Rica), using GIS tools such as ArcGIS and aerial photographs of 2004. In addition, the levels of infestation in plots of coffee for monitoring H. hampei. Coffee plants were selected at different altitudinal levels in order to relate these levels with different land uses present at scales between 50 and 1500m. Analysis Descriptive statistics showed dominance in the landscape of land use and forest-scrubland and Café. In total 1027 were digitized polygons (patches), which covered 16,750 ha, of which seven were part land uses. On the other hand it was determined that the bit decreases the population at elevations above 800m and its closest relationship was with the Coffee land use 100, 150 and 200 m, suggesting greater efficiency in monitoring over short distances supported by the results of principal component analysis and the habits and behavior of the species altitudinal level. The results show the relationship with the coffee berry borer and the Forest at small scales and low altitudes.
