Modeling vibrations response of wooden beams with singularities using sound synthesis models

The works presented in this paper are included in a large project which aim is to imagine a system of measurement for the non destructive testing. This system has to be able to quantify the mechanical qualities according to the standards (or to the schedule of conditions) for the control and the evaluation of the production process. Among all the mechanical characteristics, we have to characterize the modulus of rupture and for that, we have to be able to detect the possible weaknesses of the wood elements. In order to bring solutions to this requirement, the CIRAD-Forêt, the CTBA-Pôle Construction and the CNRS-LMA, have shared their respective competences. It ensues from this cooperation, a new approach based on the physical modeling of the vibrations response of wooden beams with singularities (local weaknesses). Principally used for the synthesis of musical sounds, the presented model appears to be well-adapted in the non destructive testing context.
