Indonesia. Oil palm Ganoderma research project in North Sumatra. SOCFINDO - LONSUM - CIRAD : Mission report 11 to 28 March 2003

The mission objectives were as follows: Carry out the second visit under the scientific collaboration agreement signed between PT Socfindo, Lonsum, (Bah Lias Research Station) and Cirad, focusing on the oil palm Ganoderma research project. - Discuss the work programme: results and prospects, - Attend the second Technical Committee meeting for the project, - Attend the 3rd International Workshop on Ganoderma Diseases of Perennial Crops (Medan, 24-26 March, 2003), organised by IOPRI and London University (Birbeck College). The priority objective of the project is to develop an early test to detect sources of resistance and susceptibility to Ganoderma. This requires a high amount of laboratory work and preliminary trials. First results have been submitted to the Technical Committee, after and analysis and the preparation of a presentation finalised during the visit. Broad outlines of the work to be done in the coming months have been also discussed. The full paper of the workshop communication is given in annex.
