Simulated plants and radiative transfers simulations
Radiative transfers modelling is restrained mainly by the difficulty of characterizing the canopy structure by in situ measurements. Yet this difficulty can presently be resolved by modelling and simulating the plant architecture. The modelling of the plant topology is based on a detailed analysis of their internode numbers and branching patterns. Conjointly, the morphology and orientation of the plant organs throughout the plant are scrutinized. These topological and geometrical studies are then used by the AMAP software in order to simulate the architectural development of plants. The simulated plant make-ups are completely described by their spatial coordinates. So they constitute an unmatched basis for numerical simulations of radiative transfers. These simulations may have various objectives: the shadow patterns at soil level, the PAR adsorption by leaves, the radiative climate within plant canopies and their bidirectional reflectance...
