Milk production in agricultural frontiers of Eastern Brasilian Amazon : present situation and perspectves

The absence of actual informations about milk production in agricultural frontiers of Brasilian Eastern Amazon and the great interest of farmers to improve milk projects justify the research work which was realized on 88 milk farms localized along the Transamazon and secondary roads between the town of Altamira and Itaituba. The authors noticed the low technological level of milk production system, an important agriculture-husbandry integration in diversificated farming systems and the real potential to develop milk production, which can contribute significaffy to improve sustainable agriculture in regions of agricultural frontiers.
