L'objectif de ces travaux est de créer certaines combinaisons d'hybrides interspécifiques d'#Eucalyptus grandis# et d'#Eucalyptus robusta#. On recherche principalement à associer la vigueur et la forme d'#E. grandis# avec la capacité à résister au passage du feu et à rejeter de souche d'#E. robusta#
