India's Green Revolution Benefits the Poor but Requires Better Irrigation Management
CGIAR news release describing two studies conducted by IFPRI which found significant benefits of green revolution technologies to India's poor in terms of increased rural incomes, reduced food prices, and improved nutrition and standards of living. A third IFPRI study however identified needed reallocations of resources, policy changes, and management practices within India's irrigation sector to sustain the growing food requirements of the country and to address the dangers posed by salinity and waterlogging.
