Annual report of the CGIAR covering the period from the Mid Term Meeting, May 1996 to the end of the year - a changeover from midyear-to-midyear coverage to coverage of the calendar year. The document contains messages from the CGIAR Chairman and Executive Secretary.There are three main sections: 1) a summary of events of the report period, focusing on the 25th anniversary celebration, initiation of the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR), and developments relating to plant genetic resources, as well as financial highlights for the period 1992-1996; 2) an extended discussion of CGIAR research in West Asia and North Africa by the Director General of ICARDA; 3) interviews with Noeleen Heyzer, director of the UN Development Fund for Women, and Ambassador Razali Ismail of Malaysia, President of the UN General Assembly, and an article by Jacques-Yves Cousteau.Attached are listings of CGIAR officers, members, and committees, and tables showing contributions to the CGIAR research agenda for the period 1972-1996 by member and by center.
