CGIAR International Centers Week, Washington, D.C., July 31-August 4, 1972: Informal Summary of Proceedings

Informal summary of proceedings of the third International Centers Week (ICW) and first ICW to be organized by the CGIAR in Washington, DC, July 31-August 4, 1972. Richard H. Demuth presiding. Ongoing and proposed international agricultural research activities and their financing were discussed. Plenary sessions were devoted to program and budget proposals by CIAT, CIMMYT, CIP, ICRISAT, IITA, and IRRI and to the proposed establishment of an International Laboratory for Research on Animal Diseases (ILRAD), and a livestock research program in Africa. Center Directors met and decided to meet again in February 1973 to discuss coordination of center research activities. Chairman Richard H. Demuth discussed the problems associated with uneven funding flows, and a number of proposed schemes to reduce the problem. Procedures for reviewing center activities were discussed. TAC Chair Sir John Crawford reported in detail on the TAC meeting held concurrently with the ICW. Attendees approved the CIP invitation to nominate three CGIAR representatives to the CIP Board. Annexes include List of Delegates, Schedule of Events, Agenda, Statement of the TAC Chair, estimated center cash requirements, and indications of donor support for 1973.
