CGIAR Annual General Meeting, Mexico City, Mexico, October 27-28, 2004 : Summary Record of Proceedings of the Stakeholder Meeting

Summary report of the Stakeholder Meeting of the CGIAR annual general meeting 2004, held in Mexico City from October 27 to October 28, Ian Johnson presiding. Inaugural remarks were delivered by Secretary of Agriculture Javier Usabiaga on behalf of H.E. Vicente Fox, President, Estados Unidos Mexicanos. The report includes summaries on: the 2004 Science Awards including the King Baudouin Award, a presentation on developments in the CGIAR by Francisco Reifschneider, a presentation by CDC Chair Kanayo Nwanze on recent CGIAR achievements, and a briefing on expected achievements by William Dar. The meeting summary also reports on the CGIAR priorities and strategies presentation by Per Pinstrup-Andersen, Science Council Chair, the speech by Francois Bourguignon, and the Millenium Project Global Plan and its implications for the CGIAR research agenda. Also included are updates by the GRPC, the Private Sector Committee, GFAR and the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development. A section on the CGIAR and Civil Society includes summaries on the Farmers' Dialogue and the Innovation Marketplace. The Ministerial Roundtable on Public Private Partnerships for Innovation : what does the future hold for the rural poor is summarized as well as the 2004 Crawford Lecture "The Mystery of Capital: Role of Property Rights in Creating Wealth and Alleviating Poverty" by Hernando de Soto. The annexes to the report contain the summaries from the four parallel sessions.
