Lamy discusses EPAs at the ACP summit
Speaking prior to his departure for Fiji, EU Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy asserted that the EU's EPA proposals were designed to reduce the ACP's marginalisation from the world economy. According to Commissioner Lamy 'ACP countries have to tackle domestic bottlenecks for trade, strengthening their regional integration and engage fully in the multilateral trading system'. 'The forthcoming EPA negotiations should assist in these efforts' he maintained. In advance of the meeting the Commission highlighted the regional dimension of the proposed EPA. The Commission claims 'EPAs will mark a major shift in the Community's trade policy towards deeper economic relations with developing countries.'
