Sheep and goats are to be tagged
On December 18th the European Commission adopted a proposed regulation on the identification and registration of sheep and goats. This will lay the basis for the gradual introduction of ear tagging of all sheep and goats in the EU. For sheep and goats traded across borders the system of tagging will have to be in place by July 2003. Comment: In due course these types of traceability schemes could well be extended to third countries seeking to export meat from small stock to the EU.
