Whose reality counts ?
Many mistakes have been made and many myths attached to Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA). In many developing countries, little credit was given to the ability of urban and rural people to understand, analyse and express the complex interactions involved in their own situations. Instead, 'top-down' solutions were often imposed by professionals which were at variance with the needs of the people.
