CTA courses

CTA courses CTA recently organized three workshops designed to develop capacities in managing SDI services. A workshop held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 7-25 October 1996 was organized in collaboration with ICRAF and ILRI and attended by 15 people, responsible either for SDI services within agricultural research institutes, or involved in CTA's SDI service. The other two workshops, organized in cooperation with the EU-PRAP, were shorter and dealt mainly with analysing needs and defining SDI profiles, database and CD-ROM retrieval techniques and networking. The first, held in Papua New Guinea from 18 October-1 November, was attended by twelve local professionals, while the second was held in Tonga from 9-13 December and attended by seven professionals from around the region. An advanced course in the use of CDROM was organized with the cooperation of CARDI in Port of Spain, Trinidad and held from 25 November-6 December. This was the third of its type intended for CD-ROM site managers in ACP countries and was attended by 18 people from throughout the Caribbean. A course on Agricultural Information Service Management took place in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso from 11-29 November. This course was organized in cooperation with the Pan-African Institute for Development/West Africa-Sahel (PAID/ADS) and was led by experts from the Institute and the Association of African Universities (AAU). Seventeen documentation and agricultural information service managers from French-speaking African countries attended the course.
