Research goes commercial

A Centre for Agribusiness Services has been set up in the Caribbean region by the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute to support commercial activities in the private sector and to ensure business opportunities are exploited. It will also promote and market the institute's own products and services. The centre has a Business Services Programme to help identify and develop viable business opportunities, and in Jamaica three organisations have been appointed to help develop it: the Agribusiness Council of Jamaica (with a membership of over 30 market-driven organisations), Trevor Hamilton, and Agri-systems Ltd., both consultancy firms. The services to be offered include: market research, business advice, input testing, meat handling, project appraisal, and quality assurance and certification.
