Bio-cocoa

On the Vanuatuan island of Mallicolo, cocoa is an important cash crop. With four out of five farmers cultivating it organically, the French confectioner Cémoi got interested in its potential. It supported the re-organisation of Mallicolo s cocoa sector with a cooperative storage and credit facility, and a cocoa drying plant. Producers are now getting a 40% higher price through their cooperative from Cémoi than they would otherwise.
