Computers without borders
The increasing demand for information technology (IT) by organisations in the South might be partly met through a low-cost solution. Computer Aid, established in 1999, recycles used computing and IT equipment. Thousands of PCs, printers, and modems are being discarded as companies upgrade their hardware. Computer Aid repairs and sends this equipment to schools as well as health and community organisations in the South. So far, equipment has been shipped to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Mozambique, Jamaica, and Cuba.
