Guinea Bissau: SOS Info!

During the armed conflict of June to August 1998, Guinea Bissau saw the loss of much of its institutional infrastructure, as well as the tragic consequences for the civilian population. The National Centre for Study and Research (INEP), the most important scientific body in the country, was plundered and used as a military base. The entirety of its databases and its library (which was to serve as the basis for a national library) with its book and archive collection were totally destroyed. To overcome this disaster, INEP researchers are seeking aid to rebuild their institute. They are currently drawing up a report on the existing situation, as well as a rehabilitation plan. They have issued a call for the solidarity of research bodies, and their staff, the world over.
